Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center and the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events present a screening of the documentary, The Deportation of Innocence, followed by a discussion with a panel of experts. Directed by Francisco Alarcon, Deportation of Innocence (2016) follows four children as their parents face deportation.
Panelists will include:
* Diana Tafur, Supervising Attorney, Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center's Asylum Project. Diana will provide a broad context on the challenges facing immigrant children and mixed-status families.
* Seemi Choudry, Director of the Office of New Americans, Chicago Mayor's Office. Seemi will discuss the steps being taken by the Mayor’s Office to protect the immigrant community amid recent enforcement threats.
*Tracy Navarro, Educator, Chicago Public Schools. Tracy will address the impact of deportations on students and families in Chicago.
