The Tacoma City Council is hearing the first reading of an ordinance to adopt interim regulations to pause fossil fuel projects in the Tideflats during a longer, more complex subarea plan.
The Planning Commission was tasked on May 9th with recommending whether or not there was need for interim regulations, and if so, what they should be. After months of public input and deliberation, they affirmed that interim regulations were indeed needed. They also put forth a balanced compromise to address the most urgent threats to the tideflats.
These interim regulations are going to the City Council for final decision. This City Council Meeting is our opportunity to urge the Council to pass strong regulations that protect Tacoma from new coal, oil and gas projects.
Public comment signup ends when the hearing begins, so please arrive early if you wish to speak (which you should)!
If you're able to join us beforehand, we will be meeting at Tully's (764 Broadway) at 4pm to talk strategy. Look for the blue CHB t-shirts!
There's too much at stake to sit this one out - mark your calendars and show up to support the pause!
