November's chapter meeting is Kentucky Politics 101. This is something that has been requested by many of our members, and we feel one year out from the 2018 elections is the perfect time to help educate, energize, and mobilize everyone!
We will be presenting information on the broad overview of how Kentucky politics differs from other states for those who are new to Kentucky and/or new to politics. For example, did you know that the Kentucky legislature is only part-time? We will explain what effect this has on things like contacting your members of the legislature, ballot initiatives, and more. We will discuss how state and local politics have a much greater impact in our daily lives and the differences between state and county or city government impact. We are also going to provide information on special sessions: what that means and how it works. Finally, we will talk about how you can get involved for maximum impact and effectiveness.
Every person who attends will receive a print out of what their state senator district and state representative district is and who their current elected officials are. If you aren't sure of what your districts are, we will be able to help you find that information during the meeting. We will provide information on who is up for re-election, who isn't, and which races have opposing candidates and which races still need candidates.
