Jewish Voice for Peace - Syracuse

Jewish Voice for Peace is a diverse and democratic community of activists grounded in Jewish values and traditions and working together against anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and anti-Jewish bigotry and oppression. We seek an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem; security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians; and a just solution for Palestinian refugees based on international law.

The Syracuse chapter of JVP was started in Fall 2016. In addition to the goals above, we are committed to creating community; working for peace, social justice and human rights locally; and collaborating with other Central New York groups working on these and similar issues. 

At this point, our group functions as a committee of the whole, but may appoint a steering committee to take responsibility for organizational tasks. Decisions are made by consensus of all members, and, if consensus cannot be reached after due discussion, by a 75 percent super-majority vote. We meet on the fourth Monday of every month and move our programming forward between meetings by working together in sub-committee and via communication over our listserv. Members are encouraged to join and pay dues of $18/year to the the national JVP organization.

A group of Jews of many different backgrounds initiated the Syracuse chapter of JVP. Some of us are religiously observant, some secular, some cultural, some inter-faith. Many of us bring intersectional identities in addition to our Jewish identities to our work for justice and peace. We are a Jewish organization open to all. Anyone (regardless of their own faith tradition or identity) who supports our mission and seeks to organize within a Jewish context is welcome to participate in all activities and to join as members.
